Brokers are doing less work for their real estate commissions as more people rely on the power of the Internet to buy and sell homes. As a result, some Multiple Listing Service real estate agencies have begun offering flat fee listing services to sellers, in which they function primarily as points of contact for the sellers and their prospective buyers. Now buyers are finding that, in actuality, they are doing part of the brokers work by finding their future homes online and believe they have earned a real estate commission rebate. Just as with flat fee services, some brokers shy away from connecting their clients to buyers operating on their own. Others will argue that, when real estate markets turn cold, properties should be made available to all potential buyers regardless of whether a broker is involved.
