Fill in every empty space you can find, even the smallest crannies. A little room to shake can add up to big damage. Use packing peanuts in boxes, but do not pour them loose into the container unless you have enough to fill the container. Otherwise, they will just settle to the bottom and leave your belongings unprotected. Solid padding materials like bubble wrap, moving blankets, and even your towels and pillows are better.
