Just ask to speak to another representative or their supervisor, or end the conversation and call back later to get a different representative. Be honest, no matter how tempting it might be to stretch the truth. And be prepared to be flexible and to negotiate. What you initially ask for may be impossible, but the representative may be able to work out another deal with you that also solves your problem with your student credit cards. Money troubles can be hair raising, especially when you're on your own for the first time.
